In its second race at the Riverside International Raceway east of Los Angeles, drivers Dave MacDonald and Ken Miles finished first and second place respectively and handily beat a team of Corvette Stingrays.


England to California

By Jan 1962, AC built a prototype chassis with lingering revisions to the front aim to accomodate the modern powertrain. AC drivers tested the automobile, removed the engine and transmission, and shipped the chassis to Shelby's Venice, Calif., plant.




The Cobra reached its apex in power and design with the introduction of the 427-cubic-inch V-8 in February 1964. The 427 Cobra beat the Ferrari GTO at Sebring. Two months later, it finished fourth overall and first in the GT class at the 24-hour Le Mans, again beating Ferrari. But always in financial trouble, Shelby ceased production of the Cobra in March 1967.
