Busa Versus Supercharged 'Vette

The Busa costs significantly less than the supercharged Corvette.

In performance vehicles, both the Suzuki Hayabusa and the Chevrolet ZR1 supercharged Corvette claim top place in their respective classes. When compared to one another, though, the two vehicles offer similar performance despite their significant price difference.

Performance

According to the official Suzuki website, the Hayabusa weighs just 573 lbs. and produces 175 horsepower. By contrast, the ZR1 supercharged Corvette weighs in at 3,317 lbs. and produces 638 horsepower. With these power-to-weight ratios, the Hayabusa accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.25 seconds, while the turbo Corvette performs the same acceleration in 3.4 seconds.

Both Suzuki and Chevrolet offer several discounts and incentives on their websites.

Price

As of January 2011, Suzuki offers the Hayabusa at a base price of $13,699. The supercharged Corvette ZR1 starts at $111,100.

Fuel Efficiency

Suzuki lists the Hayabusa fuel consumption as 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers; these numbers equate to about 1.48 gallons per 62 miles or about 42 miles per gallon. According to Chevrolet, the supercharged Corvette consumes gas at a rate of about 15 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway.
